The ocean is the foundation of life on our planet: not only does it produce oxygen and host a variety of living things – it also provides us with food, raw materials and energy, routes for transportation and a place for recreation.

At the same time, this means that the ocean is a location of growing conflicts! While open-ocean fishermen hunt down the last tuna, energy companies are exploring new minerals in the deep sea. Sports divers worry about dying coral reefs, while traditional fishermen are struggling to survive…

In Ocean Limited, players take on the roles of these and other stakeholders and negotiate their interests in marine resources. They are confronted with the environmental consequences of human uses and the impacts of climate change on the oceans. If they want to preserve their livelihoods for the future, the players need to find sustainable compromises among their interests.

Ocean Limited is a game for groups of at least 10 players from age 15, intended for use in high schools and environmental education groups. Adult marine enthusiasts will have fun too, and learn a lot about complex and fragile ocean systems!
